Robber's Cave, India

Guchhupani

Robber's Cave (locally known as Guchhupani) is a river cave formation located approximately 8 km from the centre of Dehradun City (Uttarakhand, India).

The cave is about 600 metres long, divided into two main parts. The cave has a highest fall of about 10 metres. In the central part there is a fort wall structure which is now broken. It consists of an extremely narrow gorge formed in a conglomerate limestone area on Doon Valley's Dehra plateau. It is a natural cave formation where rivers flows inside the cave. The place is a popular tourist spot and is now being maintained by Uttarakhand State. Local bus services are available up to Anarwala Village, from where it is a kilometre's trek away.

Guchchupani or Robbers Cave is known for unusual cold springs which   goes underground at some of the places inside the caves. One can enter   the cold water with folding pants and witness small and large waterfall.   Experiencing beautiful natural rift or caves with legs in freezing   water is amazing and romantic as well. Youngsters and tourists rushed to   Robbers Cave mostly in summers to get relief from scorching Sun.   Guchchu Pani is now developing as a best place to visit in Dehradun.

Named by the British, Robbers Cave is well known locally as 'Gucchu   Pani'. It was believed that Robbers used to take hide in Guchchupani   after robbery, so British names it as Robbers Cave.
